It's been too long...
School has been draining a lot of my time. I am very much looking forward to improving this game.
But anyways, I did promise some information.
The game didn't really go as well as I hoped. I got maybe 20,000 hits altogether, over the last year. I generated very little money from ads, which is most likely what stopped progress.
Most people though it was lacking in a lot of areas. No sound, for example. I think, also, by adding movable infantry I could have had a better response, so people actually felt like they were *doing* something.
Go ahead (if anyone still visits this blog) and give ideas for improvement.
This is an ongoing project to make a superior RTS game in flash. The name 'Commodore' implies the engine. Subsequent versions of the engine will be titled and released as individual games of increasing complexity, ultimately reaching the state of a fully blown Real Time Strategy game.

I like your mission to put out some sweet defense games. I'm sure you are aware however that this will take a lot of work and progress. Don't get me wrong, I like what I see here but full potential is a ways away.
Things I liked with your game:
- It was simple yet more complex than most, the enemies matched with all the other graphics and weren't crappy or unethical. Adding foot-soldiers is an amazing concept and could lead to making the game unique and less boring than most turret defense games. I like the HUD, everything you need to know is there and it is pretty easy to use. The zoom is another cool concept that could really jazz things up in the future. I liked the game in general, style etc. but it can all be brought up to the next level. I also like the message bar as a concept to keep you up to date and feel in control.
Things to be improved (Now I'm not saying all at once but eventually it would be great to see).
- First off, I think you should add a grid to place buildings in, without one it usually just ends up looking sloppy, and you want the player to be proud of his destructive creations.
- Add a sell button, we all make mistakes or change our minds once in a while. Why limit the player?
- Zoom and Mini Map. Right now the mini-map is pretty annoying to use, it's hard to tell what is what, you can't drag on it, and it's the only way to move the screen. I suggest you add the path, color or shape details for enemy types, shrink the map to fit the size of the path, allow map scrolling in the main screen, as well as dragging in the map, maybe some turret type denominations and any other future details that would be relevant. As for the zoom, it really has no use, there just isn't much to see zoomed in and it's also debilitating when planning out where to place turrets etc.
- Foot Soldiers, right now are just kind of a random annoyance, I suggest giving them specific terrain (not maneuverable by vehicles) to travel to the base, giving the player special defense options like traps and so on to get rid of them. Making it like a mini-game amidst the warfare going on in the rest of the map.
- Turret Info. It would be good to add the armor rating along with everything else when browsing turrets. I think you should add numbers to actually show what these turrets are dishing out otherwise the player is unsure about upgrading.
Those are some of the first things I would change. I see changes experimenting with sound and graphics but that can come later. Right now the setup is neutral and ripe for innovation.
I would love to help you out with this as I have a huge passion for games and what I could offer is my writing skills. If you wanted I could arrange a solid storyline as well as ideas with overall design. Those are my strong suits and I would love to help out if you want. I would be doing this for free as well. I understand your funding is low enough already. So if you are interested at all, I have a whole bunch of ideas to help you out already brewing. So if that sounds enticing, e-mail me at etherealmonk@hotmail.com (I'm trusting you with my e-mail address).
If your not interested in my help what evs but I at least recommend looking for sponsorship on Newgrounds or Armorgames, especially Armorgames since that is what they are mostly all about.
I have time on my hands right now and mayyybe could help with art, and hey I even know a friend who is pretty handy with code. So I hope I can help. It would be awesome to see this thing flourish and the volume of this comment should at least go to show I would be committed.
